Privacy Policy

Strangr is built to know as little about you as possible. You don't give us your name, email address, or phone number. Random chats are deleted the moment either person leaves. What little we do handle is described honestly below.

• An anonymous account. When you open Strangr, we create a random account identifier so the app can pair you with someone. It contains no personal details.
• An optional username and password. If you register to keep your saved rooms, we store the username you choose and a hashed password. We never ask for an email address or phone number.
• Your messages. Text, photos, voice notes, and video messages are stored on our database only for as long as described under "How long messages live" below.
• Interests. Tags you add for matching are attached to your place in the queue and to the match, then deleted with them.
• Activity signals. Online status, "last seen" time, typing indicators, and read receipts, used to power those same features for the person you're talking to.
• Reports and blocks. If you report someone, we store the report (who reported whom, the reason, and the chat it came from) and a mutual block so you are never matched again.
• Aggregate counters. Anonymous totals such as how many chats have been started. These contain nothing about individuals.

Your browser also keeps a few things locally that never reach our servers unless listed above: your interest tags and your notification preference.

• Random chats: deleted for both people the moment either of you leaves, skips, or disconnects.
• View-once photos: deleted for both people as soon as the recipient closes them.
• Saved rooms: kept so you can pick the conversation back up — until either member clears the chat or deletes the room, which removes the messages for both of you.
• Voice calls: connect directly between the two of you (peer-to-peer). Call audio never passes through or gets stored on our servers. Because the connection is direct, your network address may be visible to the person you're calling while the call is active.

Only to run Strangr: pairing you with another person, delivering your messages, showing presence and read indicators, keeping the service safe (handling reports, enforcing blocks, preventing abuse), and understanding overall usage through anonymous totals. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

• Leave any chat at any time — its messages are deleted immediately.
• Delete or clear any saved room; this removes its messages for both members.
• Report anyone who makes you uncomfortable; reporting also blocks them permanently.
• Turn notifications on or off in Settings.
• If you registered, sign out at any time. To have your account data removed entirely, contact us below.

Strangr is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use it. If we believe an account belongs to someone under 18, we will remove it.

All traffic is encrypted in transit, and database access is restricted by per-user security rules — each person can only reach their own conversations. No online service can promise perfect security, so never share information in a chat that you wouldn't want a stranger to have.

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Meaningful changes will be highlighted in the app.
